Loch Gelly is known more for its importance as a watersports centre than for the excellence of its fishing.
In the dim and distant past, it may have been a very good trout habitat, but now the poor quality of water
is more suited to the coarse fish which have a higher tolerance of such conditions.
To get there take Loch Gelly turn-off on A92, then take the road signposted Auchtertool. Roads leading
to extreme eastern end of the loch offer best access.

Roach, pike and perch are said to abound in the very shallow water, and it is a popular winter resort for
Fife's growing bands of coarse fishermen. During the summer months, the water sports will tend to interfere
with the quiet contemplation of the float, so winter fishing is probably the best option.
Interestingly, this loch was historically famous for the quality of its medicinal leeches. So if you are
feeling a tad off-colour, try a swim in Loch Gelly.
