South West Fife

This region was once the industrial heartland of Scotland. The coal pits are now silent and abandoned, the textile industries defunct and the dockyards only just managing to hold on to a semblance of life.

However, the industrial activities of the past have not only left their mark on the countryside but also a host of abandoned reservoirs and impoundments which now provide some of the best mixed game fisheries in Scotland. Apart from these water supplies and reservoirs, natural waters such as Fitty and, to a lesser extent, Glow and Stenhouse are also to be found. But in the main, trout waters are artificial or at least adapted and augmented.

The fishing is diverse and attractive. There are first-class put-and-take waters such as Raith Lake, close-to-wild waters such as Fitty and Stenhouse, prime coarse fisheries such as Little Glenniston Pond and Swan's Pond, salmon and trout run the River Leven and there is a whole coastline of sea angling prospects to explore at your leisure. It is, frankly, surprising that such a small area of land can hold so much fishing potential.

But that's Fife for you, a region of many surprises!

A lovely pair of Brownies
