Aberdour
VR Viewpoint of Aberdour Harbour A pretty seaside village with a beautiful sandy beach, picturesque harbour and an extensive historic castle. Built by the Douglas family, this 14th century castle has extensive gardens, a restored first floor gallery and an unusual beehive shaped dovecot - which are rare outside of Fife. Tel: 01383 860519 - Open April to Sept 9.30am to 6.30pm. The castle is maintained by Historic Scotland and there is an admission charge. Near to the castle is Aberdour's Silver Sands, a beautiful stretch of sandy beach which is regularly commended for it's cleanliness. The cliffs between the Silver Sands and Aberdour harbour are popular with abseilers and climbers. The harbour is busy with pleasurecraft during the summer months and offers views across the Forth to Inchcolm island and Edinburgh. |
